The U League -- Growing The Game

The U League is a not-for-profit organization that aims to facilitate basketball competition and events for university students and the general community.

We aim to foster growth in basketball in the university sphere and general community by delivering competitions, programs and 3x3 events. We offer 5v5 competitions across Sydney with locations at Sydney University (Camperdown), Rhodes, The Hills (Crestwood), Arncliffe, Concord and Lidcombe and Lane Cove.

We operate 3x3 tournaments at UNSW, Sydney University and others throughout the year and we engage with a range of community partners including Midjuburi Ballers (indigenous basketball) and community-focused efforts.

We also offer youth competitions and training with our partner organisation Young Hoopers .

Our competitions are as follows:

Sydney Uni 'Student Sundays', single division, 8:00pm to 10:30pm at Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Student (University, TAFE or HS) particpation requirements apply (minimum five students on the team), next season starts March 15th 2026 with open scrimmages & trainings to form teams on March 1st and March 8th.
Lane Cove Sundays, two divisions; one competitive and one social division, 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Galuwa Recreation Centre
Lidcombe Mondays, single division of approximately Division 4/Division 5 standard, 6:35-10:00pm at USYD Cumberland Basketball Court
Arncliffe Wednesdays, single division of approximately Division 4 standard, 6:35-10pm at Arncliffe Youth Centre
Concord Wednesdays, single division of approximately Division 1 or Division 2 standard, 6:35pm to 10:00pm at Concord Oval Recreation Centre
Hills Thursdays, single social division, 6:35-10:00pm at Crestwood High School
Rhodes Thursdays, single division of approximately Division 3 standard, 6:35pm to 10:00pm at Rhodes Recreation Centre
Arncliffe Sunday, single division of approximately Division 3 standard, 6:00-7:40pm at Arncliffe Youth Centre
Sydney Uni Sundays, six divisions, 12-10:20pm with preferences for game time window (12-5 or 5-10:20) available at Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic

Please note nominations can be competitive at some locations and we cannot guarantee every team a place in their preferred location.

Please note we not all competitions have teams looking for players and often teams are looking for specific players when looking for new additions so while we try our best we cannot find everyone a team in their preferred location/division

Specifically it is extremely unlikely we can find a place for you as an individual player in our Sydney University League as most teams recruit players themselves. When teams do recruit through us at Sydney University it is almost always higher level players and/or players that are 6'4" and above.

Individual Player Enquiries

Referees & Bench Officials

The U League is always looking for new referees and bench officials, we pay excellent rates per game and offer training for new staff members.

Referees we always welcome referees with prior experience with pay starting at a minimum of $25 per game and going up for more experienced referees, later games and higher level games. We provide training to referees that have their stripes but limited experience, ensure experienced referees are across our league specific rules and even train new referees from scratch, if they have prior playing experience or bench official experience at a reasonable level.

Bench officials start at $23 per game for operating the game clock, score and stats and score on the Ipads. We provide training for bench officials, however, anyone looking to become a bench official must have a strong understanding of basketball and basketball statistics (pts, rbs, asts, stls, blks) so we have a base level from with to build.

Our locations are Lane Cove, Lidcombe, Rhodes, Concord, Arncliffe, Camperdown/Sydney Uni, and The Hills.
